On Writing

I have been meaning to get back to writing over the past year or so and this urge gets stronger whenever I finish reading a good book. As a teenager at school, I enjoyed English class mainly because of the writing assignments, and so I though I would try take it up again. Every time I sat down to write something, however, I hit a wall. Upon waking this morning the reason for that became obvious.

In the 15 years or so since I've left High School, I seem to have developed two ways of dealing with creative ideas. I will judge a thought that I am having as either being too simple and naive to spend any more time on, or if I think it is rather clever, that somebody must have already though of it in the past. I am sure that the rise and rise of Google and Wikipedia only reinforce such behaviour.

Now that I am aware of this happening, I can sidestep it, and hence this 1st post. Hopefully there will be many more to follow.
